LOCKS-UP all the time and IOGEAR says that is NORMAL February 6, 2006 DigitalHW Designer (Morrow, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This KVM will lock up about once a day when the computers are inactive and will not respond to any user input (video, mouse, keyboard, button on the unit etc...) The only way to fix it is to unplug the unit (no power button to turn it off/on either). I called IOGEAR and they said this lockup is NORMAL. They are trying to blame the problem on the computer saying I need to turn on WakeOnLan setting... I'm not sure how WakeOnLan is going to keep the IOGEAR KVM from locking??? Go with the Linksys stuff. I have used theirs in the past an it worked flawlessly with the same setup.
Best Display Quality November 14, 2005 Hardware_Geek (Indianapolis, IN) I have a setup where I use two laptops and a desktop, so I thought it would be nice to share a monitor/keyboard/mouse so I started shopping for a good KVM switch. I even tried a generic docking station as part of the configuration, docking station was junk but the IOGear KVM is a decent replacement of the docking station. For the KVM, I actually tried one from Best Buy and if was decent but the response from the mouse was a little slow and it got annoying. Then I tried a Tripplite that I bought online. The mouse response was good but the display quality was horrible. By horrible I mean everything was blury like I forgot to put my glasses on. It would be fine for a server but not good for a constant use pc. The IOGear is great the display is as good as if it wasn't through the KVM and the mouse response is good. The OSD (On-Screen Display) is a nice addition too, but not really something that I will use too much.
Fails expectations October 16, 2004 Scott P. Stewart (Reston, VA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pros: 1. Easy to hook up. 2. Works 90% of time. 3. Even though I am quite disappointed, I'm not aware of a much better product out there. (Where are you engineers?) Cons: 1. Will *not* work with non-standard mice and keyboards. This means only 2 buttons and wheel for mice and no multi-media buttons on your keyboard. I find this quite annoying. 2. Although the documentation claims that one of its features is that the KVM doesn't need to be switched to each of the computers as they boot up (can boot them all simultaneously), my monitor won't work with one of my computers unless the KVM is pointing to the computer while it is booting. Customor support was unable to resolve this problem or even explain why it was occurring. 3. Again, although the documention claims that the USB peripheral device emulation allows faster switching, about half the time it is just as long as it was when I used an older KVM switch (which was just a cord... no processor, no emulation). 4. The price! For $200 I would think it would perform in spades. Not even close.
