3 out of 5 stars Low volume but good range   September 10, 2007

Another reviewer said that this headset has low volume, yet he gave it four stars. I agree that the earpiece volume can't be turned up loud enough. Since hearing the other party is a basic requirement of a headset, I'm giving it only three stars. I can hear most callers okay (that's why I didn't give it a lower score), but I attend quite a few meetings where other people are in a conference room using a (high quality) speaker phone, and this headset doesn't quite get the job done in those situations. I have a wireless Panasonic phone system with speaker phones on the handsets and I can hear great with those speaker phones, but not with this headset.

This is my second attempt with this headset -- the first unit had volume issues too. I sent email a couple of weeks ago to Jabra/GN Netcom and I haven't heard back yet.

I also use the headset for dictation with Dragon Naturally Speaking, and it works great for that. Callers seem to be able to hear me well, so the mic volume is okay.

The other reviewer said that his headset didn't work well unless he was within 30 feet of the base. I've gone much farther than that without losing signal quality. However, the microphone is way too sensitive to even the slightest breeze, so when you are just walking down a hallway you can hear air movement over the mic. Definitely can't be used outside if there's any breeze.

4 out of 5 stars Good headset but a little hard to hear   May 8, 2007

Most important thing to know about this headset is that although it works pretty well for me, due to the volume issue and the distance limitation of about 30', I've switched to using a GN Netcom GN 9120. The 9120 doesn't have some of the bells and whistles of the 9350. For example, it doesn't work as an IP phone on my computer, and it has a less convenient on/off button on the headset. But, the 9120 lets me walk 50-70' away with 4 walls in the way and still no problems, and with the 9120 I can turn the volume up much louder so I don't have trouble hearing people. So, I now use the 9120.

Having said all that, before turning to the 9120, I was fairly pleased with the 9350 after using it for 2 months. If you need a wireless headset that works both as an IP phone/computer headphone and as a wireless headset for your landline, the 9350 is a good choice. It works pretty well (I have Panasonic KX-TG4500 4-Line phone system). It works both as my phone headset and computer headset, with just a push of a large easy to reach button (on the base, not on the headset) to switch between them.

Reception is clear, no static. But, distance isn't great. If I get more than 30' away, it fades out. Within 30', however, it works great.

It also works well most of the time with the GNNetcom handset lifter.

CONS: 2 main problems:
1. It can be hard to hear some people-the volume doesn't go up high enough on the headset.
2. Sometimes the handset lifter doesn't work, and I have to unplug the whole phone to re-set everything.
3. Starts to cut out if more than 30' away with 2 walls in the way.

I've used 30 different headsets, starting with corded many years ago. Then I went to cordless phones with a wired headset, which was much better. Then, when fully wireless ones came out, I was really excited. But, each one I tried disappointed me, until now. I couldn't understand why I could have such a good experience with my cellphone wireless (Bluetooth) headsets, but no one could make a good wireless headset for my office phones. That is, until now. This one works well, other than the two problems I listed above.

[Having said all that, remember it has to be compatible with your phone. I use a Panasonic KX-TG4500 4 line and the handset lifter is connected to the base].

MY REVIEW OF GN CUSTOMER SUPPORT-I give it an 7 on a scale of 1-10: Before this, I had the GNNetcom GN6110. No good. It always had static. I had another GNNetcom wireless headset before that, and it had static too. GNNetcom's customer service was pretty good, though-they replaced the first one free by sending me the GN6110. Unfortunately, it didn't help either. When I contacted them for support on the previous headset, they responded, but it took over a month for them to respond.
