Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
SanDisk 256 megabyte (MB) + Wi-Fi SD Combination card is the world's first card to include both memory and WLAN (802.11b) communications in a single SD card. The card is compatible with handheld devices that feature an SDIO-enabled slot and use Microsoft Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003 or Windows Mobile 2003 operating environments. The low-power device is designed to minimize battery drain, a key consideration for handheld computer users. In addition, combining flash memory and Wi-Fi in one card also represents a cost savings to consumers because if the cards were bought separately they would cost considerably more.

4 out of 5 stars Still the best card out there, but not perfect.   March 3, 2008
Timothy Chu (Vancouver BC)
I've run this card until it could run no more. After about 4 years, it's finally given up on me--the green LED gives a little flicker when I insert it in, but then the whole pocketpc freezes until I remove the card. But reviews shouldn't be about the final days, but about the days of glory. In point form:
- my pocketpc was a Viewsonic V37 upgraded to Windows Mobile 2003
- card (both wifi and 256mb components) only recognized by pocketpc when drivers installed
- 256mb recognized by PC memory card readers without problem
- power consumption is pretty big, but I did once manage an hour of surfing without the low power alarm coming on
- form factor is biggest drawback. I once dropped my ppc with the card still in it. It landed card side first, and the card has been slightly bent ever since. It still functioned perfectly for years after, however.
- pretty good reception. I was able to pick up hotspots in the bus, maybe 20 metres away from the nearest buildings.
- plastic case it comes in is great...I can carry it around anywhere
- driver software is adequate. Would sometimes forget all the hotspot profiles I had saved, and I'd need to reenter.
- eventually I used Odyssey software for my connections to my office's secure LAN, which worked fine, but disabled all other software on the PPC from connecting properly (Odyssey is a bit of a memory hog though)
- WiFi connection to ActiveSync and my office's Exchange Server (using PocketOutlook) were the greatest productivity features of the Pocket PC platform...I could keep my PPC's cradle permanently at work, and use WiFi to sync up at home
- biggest barrier to wider use was not due to the WiFi card but the lack of a decent web browser on the Windows Mobile 2003 platform.
- 256 mb isn't big enough for storing volumes of MP3s, but it was more than sufficient for storing network related applications
- Remote Desktop through wifi was also handy if truly desperate (although the interface made it slow)

1 out of 5 stars Terrible return policy.   June 12, 2006

Sandisk will not refund your money. I purchased the card based on the table of compatabilities from their website. They said it was compatable with my PDA. After 3 days of trying to get it to work, I e-mailed Sandisk for help. They told me it was not compatable. I e-mailed them the table showing it was compatable and asked for return instructions. They refused to refund my money.

2 out of 5 stars Not compatible with Garmin ique m5   August 13, 2005

I just purchased a garmin ique m5 and ordered the sandisk sd wifi card with 256 mb memory. I haven't used the sd card yet (still waiting for it to arrive). I emailed sandisk to find out if this is compatible with garmin ique m5, they replied and advised me not to use it because of driver issues. I don't know what to do now with this card when I receive it, there's no use for it.

2 out of 5 stars Sandisk has discontinued these cards and are not replacing them under warranty   July 8, 2005

I own this card and recently started having problems. When I called Sandisk and they have no stock to replace these cards. I am pretty ticked off at Sandisk. They should be able to replace this card under the three year warranty. They want me to return it and they will replace it with a 1 GB memory card, which is worthless as I really need the wifi portion, not the memory.
Buyer beware.

Note added 3/21/06...I have to give credit to Sandisk, after repeatedly calling (for six months) and escalating the problem, I did get a replacement. THANK YOU SANDISK! It was not the way it should have been in warranty position (6 months into a 3 year warranty). It was very much a hassle, but eventually worked out. Should hold me over until I purchase a new PDA with wireless built in. This is an excellent idea of combination unit, hope someone else picks up the idea.
