Dynex & Amazon April 18, 2008 Sakuna Ganbari (Rutledge, PA United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thanks to the Seller for informing me of how to submit a review that properly reflected the problem as lying with the manufacturer and not with the Seller. I wish the original feedback section at Amazon had separate ratings for the Seller versus the Manufacturer. This Seller did everything possible to try to help me fix the drivers problem. The Manufacturer did offer an attempt at fixing the drivers problem from their website. I do not know if this is a problem of compatibility with Vista, but we could never resolve it. At least the item is cheap enough I can just trash it.Dynex Desktop Web Camera
Remarkable! November 6, 2007 K. Moran I thought I'd take a chance and buy this camera even though some reviews weren't too good and some of the suggestions didn't work. I can not tell you how I eventually was able to get it to work after sometime of installing and re-installing it, but when I finally did get it to work in all my camera programs it went right to the top of the list. I was very pleased. So much so I wanted to share my joy with those of you who may scoff at the low price. I like to take risks and I like cheap gadgets. All I can say is WOW! just a $1.99 Wow!
Works great IF you can get it installed October 3, 2007 Andreole 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
The web is full of posts by irate purchasers of this little camera that simply couldn't get it to work. With good reason. The software that is shipped with the product is total junk. Fortunately what is available on-line is better. Here's how to solve the black screen problem on an XP. The key is not to allow the machine to install the driver for you. You must install the driver from the device manager in your system folder. The reality is that it is a nice little device ONCE you get it to work. First, toss the software that came with the camera. Go to http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-459-10-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx and download the software you actually need to run the device. (If you previously installed the software, it would be best to remove it before starting.) Download the new software, unzip it and you'll have a dynex folder containing an install file. With your camera NOT connected to your computer, install the software, including the WebCompanion2 program from ArcSoft (this will happen automatically after the Dynex software installs). Reboot if asked to do so. Hook up the camera. Abort any attempt by the computer to search for the needed driver itself. Go to your control panel and find your systems folder. In that folder, find the device manager under the hardware tab. Locate "imaging device" and locate the Dynex camera. Right click on it, then select "update driver". Again, don't let the computer find what you need. Opt to manually locate it and direct the computer to look to the dynex folder most likely on your desktop or found under Programs. Three drivers are found. Two certified and labeled "PC Cam", the other not certified and labeled "Dynex Cam". Select Dynex. That's it. Your camera should work. Obviously, this is not the way these products should work. You should not have to go through so much grief just to install it.
UHHHH August 31, 2007 Beckeke 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I would recommend reading some other reviews other than the ones here. I say you pretty much get what you pay for. It's not spectacular and doesn't always do what you want it to. I've tried to record videos with this camera and haven't had much luck. Sound doesn't always record and lags when it does. I've read that a glitch in the dynex software might be the cause of this and that I need to purchase some other webcam software.
Great for the money August 5, 2007 J. Siegel 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great webcam. We went to Best Buy, and after much discussion and speculation, we decided to get this camera. We had to decide between this, and much more expensive webcam that was on sale. I am glad we bought this. After we got past the black screen (thanks to the instructions from a previous reviewer), it went smooth as silk. It has great picture quality and microphone quality for its price. It doesn't come with a lot of extras, but who needs them? I am glad we got this one.
