Excellent webcam August 3, 2008 Gamal Akabani (Germantown, MD) The product is easy to install and use, no issues when used with Skype and other programs. Great resolution and color reality. Software is reliable and easy to use.
Good Quality--Works with PC and MAC May 16, 2008 Conrad B. Senior (Easton, CT United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
. This product works better on a PC than a MAC. On the PC, the camera, will follow you if you move around--it doesn't do this on the MAC. On the other hand, I find PC's to be a PITA to work with--it works, but it is not as easy as using on a MAC. Note I did not try this with iMovie. On the Mac it worked with PhotoBooth and iChat. At present I use it on a Mac Mini hooked up to a flat panel TV. My 15 year old niece loves it. The size of this display and the farther distance away from the camera, provides a better field of view and an in-your-face camera. I personally, rarely use it, but I can see the potential for as a video phone. I wish more of my friends and family had similar set-ups, as it would be great to see people at a distance and be able to talk to them. I highly recommend the Mac Mini hooked up to a flat panel. I also use a Mac Wireless keyboard and just ordered a Bluetooth TrackBall. By the way, the Mac Mini has worked great for web browsing. Hit "Command" and "+" to zoom text sizes to read the news from across the room. Very cool. Overall, I think this is a great webcam. It has pretty good color and makes a good sharp image. I wish it has still higher resolution, but it does it's job well. You can't go wrong for this price also.
Excellent webcam May 8, 2008 Randall G. Fortenberry (Walla Walla) I've had a couple of cheaper webcams but this one is well worth the money. It has a great picture even with poor lighting.
Great Lens? The Outer Lens Is Plastic, Not Glass! May 3, 2008 J. Levesque I've purchased several Logitech webcams in the past with the two most recent being Logitech Ultra Vision webcams. The first Logitech Ultra Vision I bought was the white model. It ran well on my Dell XPS computer though the software had been buggy from time to time causing occasional issues, nothing unusual for Logitech's software by what I've experienced. My black Logitech Ultra Vision SE has had issues from day one. I've had audio issues I haven't been able to resolve no matter how careful I installed their software and always by the book I might mention - even reinstalling the operating system twice and starting from scrach! The audio on this Logitech Ultra Vision SE has been distorted when using the built-in microphone with Skype. It has sounded over-modulated causing distortion to the point that people I'd talk with using Skype could hardly understand me. I never had this problem with my white Ultra Vision webcam. The other thing I want to mention is I pulled my black Ultra Vision webcam apart today as I was going to throw the unit out anyway. The surprising thing I found is that the wider, outer lens is not made of glass, but plastic. I had tapped on it with a small, metal screwdriver. I was amazed that it sounded plastic. I even tapped on the lens with my teeth! It sounded AND felt like it were plastic and not glass. I then took a small knife and easily scratched the outer lens deeply! Web-sites have been advertising the Logitech Ultra Vision SE as having an all-glass lens assembly? Well.. I know the outer lens is plastic, no doubt about that! I haven't yet checked the inner lenses to see what they're made of. I'm running a Dell XPS 410 PC with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit with an Intel Core 2 Duo 6700 processor, 8 gigs of Kingston 800MHz DDR2 RAM and two hard-drives (Seagate Barracudas 320Gb single-platter SATA drives) being run in Raid 0 array and are fast as hell! My computer kicks butt, runs great and should be more than compatable to effectively run a Logitech Ultra Vision webcam! Logitech software just sucks, plain and simple. I've always had issues with their webcam software on every computer I've owned. If YOU can get your Logitech Ultra Vision SE to run consistantly without issues on your computer?... You must TRULY BE BLESSED!
Great Cam, price a little steep for what it does May 3, 2008 P. F. Polanco (Queens, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
ok.... 2 things... It is a very well made cam (it doesn't feel like a flimsy plastic web cam), and it works on both mac and pc... i have a mac and a pc in my house, and i really like the fact that i can bring it back and forth between computers.... while on the mac it was easier to install (just plug it in, and restart the comp), on the pc it has alot of features which are not available on the mac version (like the auto lighting feature, the "follow me" feature, etc.) pros: WORKS ON MAC! with no drivers to download! and without having to use Macam when using on windows, it's a very high quality camera and the features are incredible the microphone is cristal clear you can pretty much mount it on any monitor (with the exception of laptops) even without the additional features on the mac, it still looks alot clearer than the "isight" that comes with the new macs the "low light mode" is simply AMAZING! i was in a pitch dark room and it looked clear as day cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH IMOVIE! imovie requires a firewire hdcam to work... so this is only for use with im programs (ichat, skype, etc..) expenssive.. i paid $140 @ the apple store (should have bought it on amazon! lol) it's a little bulky.. the zoom is not optical, it's digital, therefore, the more you zoom in, the grainier and more pixelated it looks. that's pretty much it... overall i think it's a great product.. and until Steve Jobs and apple get a little smarter and realize that people wanna have the option to buy usb cams for their macs, im gonna have to deal with it~ -pedro
