"Old" Wine in a "New" Bottle March 9, 2007 Samory (NYC) I took this book out on loan from my local library, hoping that it would help me augment my knowledge of photography. When I got home and began to peruse through the chapter headings and pages, I had the unfortunate displeasure of noticing that the book was strikingly familiar to a book I purchased months ago at the clearance aisle at B&N. Save its redesigned cover, Freeman's Taking Great Photograph is the same as his other book entitled The Photographer's Manual--both subtitled "How to get the best picture every time, with any [or every] kind of camera." In both books Freeman provides overviews about photography in seemingly conversational prose. Freeman does not delve into digital photography nor does he attempt to provide technical information that may be of importance to today's photographers. Consumers interested in this book should instead consider purchasing Freeman's The Photographer's Manual, which can be had for a lesser price than Taking Great Photographs (both books contain the same titles and number of pages). 3 stars out of 5 Nothing added, nothing gained.
Great book about photography February 24, 2004 Cristina Mihailescu (Bucuresti, Romania, EUROPE) An extremely interesting book, perfect for those who are eager to learn something more about taking photos. From the equipment you need, the lenses, accessories, exposure, general composition, foregrounds and so on and so forth, to tips on improving your techniques "Taking great photographs" is the best book of such kind. I devoured it as soon as i got my hands on it. I enthusiastically recommend it.
