A Fan Of The Canadians From New ZealandJanuary 4, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I saw this book in a catalogue, I thought it was a "must have". It was described as having 200 spectacular photos of the rockies and was Leighton's best work. The book was a major disappointment having less than 150 photos for a start (not 200) and nearly a third of these appear in the cheaper $29.95 book from Altitude Publishing anyway (a better choice). Although there were a few really nice photos, many were a poor choice of subject. Very few shots were taken in the backcountry, instead most were of the common sights near the roadways through the parks. There are lots of photos of plant close ups and birds and aerial shots, but not enough classic mountain shots. The best shot is possibly the cover photo. You can still buy the book new from the publisher if keen. The book is not worth the retail price of $85 Canadian Dollars, it cost me $180 New Zealand Dollars by the time I got it here, which made it a very expensive book. There must be better large format photo books on the Rockies around.
