Your One Stop Reference January 7, 2007 Winterlights Like "The Joy Of Cooking" is to the home chef, this is the one photography book any amateur photographer should have as a basic reference. It teaches you the things you need to do good photos and will stand you in good stead over the years as a manual on "how to" from things like F-stops to how pictures should be framed. A cheap buy at this price and worth having in your library.
Good Starting Point and Quick Reference September 13, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is great for a beginner to get a first idea of what goes on behind the scenes to create different effects/qualities in photos, and as such, provides a good quick beginner's reference to put in your camera bag. However, I feel that this should be a companion to a more in-depth book, which goes into greater detail on subjects like exposure.
Bursting with useful tidbits June 8, 1999 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
A small book with an enormous amount of information. It won't tell you WHAT a good picture is (take a visual arts course for that), but it will tell you how to make what you consider good the best it can be via the medium of 35mm film. Almost everyone who isn't a professional camera jockey will read this book and repeatedly say "Aha! So that's how it's done!"Buy it. 'Nuff said.
Basic Imformation is covered nicely! November 9, 1998 6 out of 13 found this review helpful
It makes for a great book to carry with you, and refer to when needed for advice. I use it a lot!
