Product Description Are you ready for action? Nikon's 8x40 Action series binoculars are an excellent all-around choice. Their high magnification and wide field of view give you a clear, detailed look at faraway objects. And because they feature quality Nikon optics, they're an exceptional value, too. WP means Wide Perspective which means that at 1000 yards, you'll see a 430 feet wide field of view, nearly 60% more than other 8x binoculars. These binoculars were designed to deliver bright, distortion-free images. Precision-aligned, multi-coated lenses and anti-reflective internal surfaces minimize light loss. Eyeglass wearers can better appreciate the view, as well, thanks to the folding rubber eye cups. The Extreme feature is significant because it means that the Action 8x40 can be used under extreme weather conditions. It is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed for total waterproof, fogproof and shockproof capability. A non-slip, rubberized exterior makes for an easy and secure grip. Nikon's rugged, high-quality construction is even backed by a 25-year warranty to ensure long-lasting performance. Don't just think about getting these. Take action! Excellent binocs! December 27, 2008 R. Geray (Idaho Falls, ID) My wife wanted binoculars for when we go camping in Yellowstone. There's a milion things to see there, particularly in the distance, and my old ones were pretty beat-up. So, after a couple hours of research, I went with these. Now maybe my view of a good set of binoculars is skewed by my old ones, but these seem outstanding, particularly for the price. Optics are excellent and eyeglass relief performs as advertised. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. Highly recommended.
All Weather Binoculars December 21, 2008 Stephen Spitzer (Chicag, IL USA) I purchased these binoculars planning to use them in inclement weather, and they work well for that purpose. With the caps over the eyepieces I can walk with them around my neck in rain or snow and have them ready for use as needed. They have been subjected to some gale force wind and rain storms with no adverse effects. Images seen through these binoculars are nice and crisp, and they are easy to focus and adjust. The only thing I do not like about them is the weight. The weight is not a problem in winter when I wear them outside my hood, but in warmer weather when the strap is right on my neck they are much heavier then I would like.
Awesome binos for me (amateur) October 27, 2008 DC (North Olmsted, OH) after looking at the reviews for this, i pulled the trigger and picked them up. We hike often through the local parks and these are so sweet! Like I said, not at all a pro at this sort of thing, so they are easy to use and crystal clear along with bringing the life right to one's eyes. The field of vision is pretty stellar as well. I would recommend them to anyone.
Good value for bird watching September 24, 2008 John Stehle (Butler PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having been pretty satisfied with the 10x50 version of this product, I decided to try the 8x40 version. I use them for bird watching and find they give a good clear image. Good value for the price.
Nikon binoculars September 15, 2008 N. Proctor (Illinois) I ordered these binoculars as a hoped-for improvement to a pair of $100 binoculars I have used several years for birding. These are absolutely the best value I could expect for the dollar spent. They are easy to grasp, easy to use with glasses, as well as being sharp and clear. I could not ask for better and would recommend them to anyone needing binoculars for moderate use.
