 Great camera at a great price. January 6, 2009

I got this camera for $99 which is a steal. It takes great pictures and it's loaded with features. The bonus is that it can be completely manually controlled which is incredible for this price point. It practially impossible to find a pocket sized digital camera with full manual features. I was going to get another digital elph after the ccd on my old Canon went out but then I saw this camera on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I can't really find any flaws with this camera so far.

I like it alot. Very cool look...althought digital has a vintage feel to it. Nice big screen in the back. Easy to figure out without reading instructions. It has it's limitations like any device but, over-all a worthwhile purchase.

I purchased this camera after reading reviews that said it's image quality was among the best of budget digital cameras. After using the camera for several months, I would be willing to sacrifice some image quality for speed. This camera is insufferably slow. The moment I was hoping to capture is usually passed by the time the camera focuses on it's subject to the time the camera has snapped the picture. And if you're using flash forget about it. After taking a picture with the flash, it will be 10 seconds before you are able to fire off a second shot.
Do not buy this camera unless you are only using it for landscape shots or pictures where the subject will be sitting perfectly still for long periods of time.

I bought the LZ8K as a little spare cam to toss in my motorcycle's saddlebags when I'm off on a ride. On the plus side, it's small, easy to operate, the lens is very sharp, and battery life (I'm using rechargeable AA Lithium batteries) is quite good. Offsetting these plusses, is the very slow trigger-to-shot reactions in poor light or indoors. Recycling of the flash system is also quite slow. I never seem to know exactly when the camera will actually take the picture -- resulting in numerous wasted efforts. Recently, I've set it to bracket with three exposures each time I take a pic -- hoping that one of them will suffice. This is a very good camera for still life or nature photography -- macro shots are fantastic. This is the wrong camera for action photography.

When I first started looking for a digital camera, i was looking for only a few things. Resolution over 5 mp, charging dock, SD and SDHC compatible, and not a sony. After doing a little reasoning, I found that charging docks aren't all that practical. If I'm out hiking, or trail riding, and i want to take a picture, I want to be able to pop in batteries if I ever happen to find anything especially amazing. I started out looking at a few fuji's, while, they did have better options and higher resolution, the cameras themselves, for the most part, were bigger and oddly shaped, and in my opinion, a little over priced. I started using the little Lumix in a local store, and found it had a lot of the options that made the higher end models easier to use. After the purchase, and taking it home and doing some more tinkering around with it, I was finding out just how amazing this little gem really was. It was taking pictures and showing things I'd never noticed before. I came to find out my pores needed cleansing, which is kind of gross, but the quality of the pictures were outstanding! I've never been more impressed with a digital camera, even after all of my searching. If you can scoop up one of these little gems for under 120 dollars, I'd definately say DO IT!
