4 out of 5 stars Incredible Price, modest expectations   February 25, 2007

To be fair I was using a Canon IXUS before, so I was realistic that for $120 it would not be a metal casing or the same feature set - the Canon is x3 the price.
I added a 1Gb card to the Xacti.
I have now been using this camera for about one month now and have to say it is pretty good, the retro styling is nice, but you then expect it to be truer to the retro theme in use of materials - matt black/metal - the actual touch is a little disappointing, the black is plastic/plastic - not rubberised or textured in any way and the metal is just plastic.
Controls are well set out.
The LCD display is pretty good, camera startup fast and prompt. In fact the operating system is the best part of the camera, plenty of settings and features. ISO settings, etc.
The camera has a 1-point & 9-point auto focus choice, but both seem to struggle in lower (not so low light) light - making it very easy to get either blurred or pictures with artifacts.
You really need to experiment and I'm not convinced it takes above average pictures on auto.
Overall, I'd say it is an amazing camera for 60/$120, 6 mega-pixels, 3 x optical zoom.

But after having used a Canon, I will be buying one of their new 2007 models when they are released and passing the Xacti to either my Mum or using it in situations where it might get bumped.
