Genius SP-i200U is a slim, portable USB speaker with a foldable stand for mobile professionals. Two specially designed full-range neodymium micro drivers inside the aluminum cones deliver pure, digital sound better than general laptop speakers. Installation is easy; just plug and play your favorite songs, watch a movie, or make a private multimedia presentation. No power supply is required with the USB-powered connector. It's easy to carry; the integrated cord-wrap cable fits in the body and a pouch is included for your travels.

1 out of 5 stars Expected more volume   December 26, 2008

Maximum volume was lower than that from the internal computer speakers. I am returning it, and will look for a powered set with subwoofer. We have headphones for the notebook that produce enough volume to fry your brain. I expected a lot more based on all the reviews that said the sound was "amazing."

1 out of 5 stars didn't work   December 16, 2008

It looked like just what I needed but only really worked for about 30 seconds. I would have thought that I was doing something wrong but it wouldn't have worked at all.

3 out of 5 stars Okay speaker - not great   December 3, 2008
Jason Yarbrough (Alabama)
The sound quality is good on this speaker (for a speaker this size), and it is small and sleek looking and all, but the two cons to this speaker are very big cons in my situation.

no volume control knob - i don't like having to use the computer to contol the volume - is a knob too much to ask?

short usb cable - thats it. the cable is too short for my liking. i am trying to mount it somewhere and it just will not reach.

other than that, it is a fine speaker, but for over [...], i just would have liked a volume knob.

5 out of 5 stars Useful set of speakers!!!   November 29, 2008

I bought the speakers knowing that they will not blow me away like a good pair of headphones or powered speakers. Sometimes I just don't feel like wearing headphones. Powered speakers are too big and heavy to carry around everywhere you go. I just toss these in my laptop bag and they go where ever I go. The speaker does not have any extra cords that you need to carry around. The cord that it does have is the USB cable that stores in a rear compartment. Genius is nice enough to even include a carrying bag for them so they don't get damaged while sitting in your laptop bag.

I pull these out of my bag whenever I am away from my main docking station at the office. Great for anyone that travels.

I am a little concerned since the speakers are exposed and does not have a grill over the diaphragm. I can image the diaphragm getting punched by a pen in my bag or even by my finger poking around. So you should probably religiously put the speakers back in the bag when not in use.

The instructions are not that great. It took me a while to figure out how to revert back to my laptop speakers when I uninstalled the Genius ones.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed!   November 13, 2008

My IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad (several years old) was not able to produce audible audio from the YouTube videos I'd uploaded and I was looking for a very portable way to amplify the sound.

This speaker bar does exactly that. Now the soundtracks are easy to hear; the one USB connection to the laptop transmits the sound to the speakers and powers them as well; and the small size and weight make carrying it right inside my laptop bag quite simple. I would highly recommend it for this particular purpose.
