Cost Effective / Light Camera September 22, 2008

I purchased this product specifically for one purpose, which is to mount on my hang glider.

The biggest expense of this project was also purchased at Amazon:
Manfrotto 482 Micro Ball Head
The camera fulfilled a couple key objectives for me.
1) Light weight (.36 pounds - The camera mount design claims support for up to 4 pounds, and this weight will have no impact on trim)
2) Small form factor (2.4" x 4.7" x 1" - Compact camera which at these dimensions also do not affect profile of glider while flying.)
3) Solid state (important when you are dealing with an extreme sport, with potentially rough landings)
4) Image Stabilization technology (but most newer cameras have this nowadays)
5) With my Sony Micro PC (Also purchased at Amazon) I am able to quick edit and upload my flight footage to Youtube directly from the mountain)

The bonus with this packaging is that a 16GB memory card is included. At the time of purchase 16GB card went for close to $43 which brings down the cost of the camera itself to below $100. Transcend TS16GSDHC6 16GB SDHC Card
These are shortcomings observed so far.
1) The camera has I/R remote capabilities but is not included. When I contacted SVP regarding purchasing remote they responded that it was not yet available. (The problem for me is that I wanted the capability of triggering the camera when strapped in and ready to jump. However with 16G I can start the camera and let it run during the long wait times)
Great Camera ... crappy software package September 19, 2008

Loved the camera but the software was rather dated and would not work with Vista at all. Only thing to work was to upgrade (pay) for version that would work with Vista. Other than the software included GREAT Camera!
