The Macro 120 mm has exceptionally high performance making it a very versatile lens not only for close-up work but general applications too where a slightly long lens is required. Image quality and light distribution, even in the close focusing range as well as at maximum aperture are extremely good. Focusing, manual or autofocus, is from infinity to 1:1 scale without the need for extension tubes. Autofocus range can also be limited to near range, far range or full range by a setting on the camera. All HC lenses have electronic shutter mechanisms and feature Multi Coating for efficient stray light elimination, an integral focus drive motor, and instant access to manual focus without switching between manual and auto focus. The HC lens use metal, not plastic, wherever possible, in order to ensure their reliability and durability year after year. Hasselblad HC 120mm f/4.0 Makro Autofocus Lens for the H1 Medium Format Auto Focus Camera.

I purchased the 120 mm macro a few weeks ago for my H3D-31. When I first tested the lens, I got error messages such as Lens Error 22.1 on the top LCD. I figured out that the handgrip has to be securely mounted to avoid errors.
Also, there are three seetings under AF: info.scan, full.scan and near scan. There is no manual explaining what these settings do. Near scan is obvious, so is full scan, not sure what info.scan does.
Last weekend I made a hand held shot of the top of a 380 m high tower. When I saw this picture on my monitor, I was amazed about the sharpness and the exposure. I had not seen so scrisp a shot before with any lens, zooms and primes. The picture is incredible! I can only highly recommend this lens, both for macro, and for subjects like buildings.
