Product Description Quantaray's lightweight, compact, high-image-quality telephoto zoom lens with macro capability of 1:2 that can be used with digital cameras. This new lens is a Di type lens using an optical system with improved multi-coating designed to function with digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras. With this 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens, flipping a macro switch in the focal length range of 180mm to 300mm obtains a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at a minimum focus distance as short as 37.4-inches, enabling close-up shots of flowers, insects, and other objects that normally require the use of a specially designed macro lens. Moreover, this is a zoom lens that casually offers the distant capture and foreshortening effect pleasures of the 300mm ultra-telephoto world.

Quantary gets the job done nicely. September 8, 2007 Brett Z 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This lens is very light for lenses with this focal range. I've tried out the Canon 70-200 with IS wich is far superior, but far heavier since it is an L-series lens. If you don't have the $1500 to spend on the Canon, then this is a good starter lens until you know your ready to spend the big money. I take pictures of my daughter at her soccer game with it and I've also done some nice lunar shots at night with it. The quality is good and I can't complain. With an aperture range from 4 to 5.6, it's not bad and I've also gotten some great portraits with the lens. I highly recommend it if you aren't making money shooting pictures and you want a nice wide focal range.
Alright for a budget lens... March 10, 2007 K. Reedy 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a relative newbie to the photography world and received this lens as a gift shortly after purchasing my digital SLR camera (Canon Rebel XTi). On the whole the lens is a so-so lens, especially for the price and wide focal range. The image quality is okay and the color is okay... I usually end up boosting the contrast and color a bit in photoshop, but it's decent enough. At the longer end (300mm) the bokeh is nice and good for amateur portraits. I did notice some chromatic aberration in some shots though... It's handy to have the wide focal range... though it's a bit heavy, focuses a little slow, and is a bit loud when focusing. However, if you're a newbie, and want to have a lens that will give you more options than the Canon SLR kit lenses (14-55), this may be a good starter option, especially b/c it's so inexpensive. If you have a bigger budget and can afford something more, I'd save for a Canon lens. Better build and image quality.
