Product Description A new and affordable L-series ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that's ideal for both film and digital SLRs. Superior optics are assured by the use of three aspherical lens elements, in addition to a Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element. Optical coatings are optimized for use with digital cameras. This lens focuses as close as 11 inches (0.28m), and offers both Canon's full-time manual focus and a powerful ring-type USM for fast and silent AF. It has a constant f/4 maximum aperture, and offers the choice of screw-in 77mm filters or a holder in the rear of the lens for up to three gel filters. Finally, it offers weather-resistant construction similar to other high-end L-series lenses.

Amazing November 17, 2008 James S. Hafner (Austin, TX) This lens is amazingly sharp and well-built. As a wedding photographer, I would highly recommend it. It is gorgeously wide, especially on a full-frame body like the 5D. Buy this lens!
fantastic lens October 26, 2008 Piotr Maczka Even 2 years ago the 17-40 L Canon lens was reserved for professional photographers because of its high price. Now it became available also for amatours. It's an amazing lens. Any picture taken with it its just fantastic. The colors, the sharpness, the quality its just beyond other lenses. "L" form canon holds its quality. I highly reccomend this lens for all photographers for whom taking pictures is more than just a hobby. IT'S DEFINITELY WORTH ITS PRICE!!!
An excellent lens September 22, 2008 Susannah H. Moore This lens seems sharp at all distances and apertures. We are very pleased with it.
Now, THIS is a lens! September 1, 2008 Rugersix (SAN FRANCISCO, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
No plastic grinding against plastic when you focus this thing. Feels just like my Fujinon lens I use on my TV news camera. Pro gear. Want some? Pay up.

I bought this with my Canon 30D. This is a great lens and L series is the best. I have mostly L lens because the quality is worth the money.
