Product Description
The Stylus 1010 is a perfect camera for users looking for a compact digital camera with advanced features. An attractive package of features including a 7x Optical Zoom and Digital Image Stabilization helps users capture clear, crisp memories. 10.1MP gives you superior image quality that you can use to make large prints, or even crop, without losing detail. The Stylus 1010 has a 7x optical zoom that gets twice the magnification when compared to a 3x zoom with this ultra-compact, precision-crafted Olympus lens. With the Dual Image Stabilization you get 2-in-1 anti-blur solutions that keeps your shot steady by compensating for camera shake to capture crisp, clear images in any situation. Easily view photos on the 2.7" HyperCrystal LCD that lets you view at extra-wide angles and with the anti-glare technology share photos with family and friends even in direct, bright sunlight. 5 out of 5 stars So Far, So Good!   September 30, 2008

So I bought this camera about a month ago, because I was looking for a replacement for my Stylus 310 (It seems so long ago...). I had read all the reviews, both positive and negative, and was - to be honest - a bit hesitant to invest. However, I've come to trust Olympus, and I know that often, a poor review can stem from limited knowledge of how to make the most out of a product.

Needless to say, I gave in, shelled out the $250, signed up for Amazon Prime (yes, the trial saved me about $11 in expedited shipping charges), and next thing I know: shiny new (silver) toy!

The camera is great. I've taken some really amazing super-macro photos (I call them my "study" on texture), the battery lasts seemingly forever, the optical zoom is impeccable, and I had no problem taking lengthy videos with a non-Olympus card, and the Shoot and Select modes have proven to be a veritable party starter.

I think this camera has reinstilled my passion for on-the-spot photo taking and seeing the world through a very large, bright, and clear lcd viewfinder. I say go for it!

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing camera   September 28, 2008

For a long time I looked forward to owning a Stylus 1010. I'm sorry to say that I'm sadly disappointed. There are so many good reviews that I thought it was a sure thing. I wanted it mainly because it's small enough to fit in a purse and it's the only pocket camera I could find with a decent zoom (7x optical, equivalent to 37-260mm). Unfortunately, every time I have the lens completely extended I get a blurry picture.

I also get many grainy photos. In all but the most ideal light situations the pictures are grainy or blurry. Sometimes in full sunlight they are overexposed. This is mainly with it on automatic settings. I have played around with some of the multitude of other settings but have not been any more impressed. Sometimes supermacro will give you a cool shot that is clear but just as often it will give you a blurry shot. If your subject is moving at all with the macro settings then don't even waste time trying. That is pretty much true with every other setting except sports. And, I don't mean moving fast, I mean moving even slightly.

This was supposed to be an easy point and shoot camera that my fiance could also use but it's obvious that he will not be able to count on getting a good shot with it. Sometimes I think that my expectations were too high because I normally use a (semi) professional camera (Nikon D70S) but I do think a pocket camera should take at least 70% of the "normal" or "easy" pictures clearly. I've owned a pocket size Canon camera before and got much better results. The Olympus Stylus 1010 is a sad disappointment.

1 out of 5 stars Get a Canon, not this   September 21, 2008

I bought the Stylus 1020 (same as the 1010 but with a better display screen) but quickly regretted it. This camera has a 10 megapixel image, but even when shots are saved at the "FINE" setting, the image quality is noticeably poorer than a 4-year-old Canon Powershot 6-megapixel camera. Comparing images from this and the Canon side by side, it's obvious that the Canon images are crisp and clear, while it looks like the Olympus images are shot through gauze or fog.

Yes, I did check to make sure the lens was unobstructed.... No luck there; it was clean as a whistle. I'm turning right around and taking this camera back. Please don't disappoint yourself. Get a Canon (or anything else that has better picture quality).

4 out of 5 stars pretty decent camera : )   September 20, 2008
Helen (United States)
I purchased this one month ago to replace my canon sd200 of 3.2mps/ 3x zoom. I wanted the 7x zoom in a small point & shoot. When comparing, I prefered the color saturation (white balance) better in my Canon! I still like my little canon and think it takes some better shots! I took a lot of side by side shots and was even considering returning this new one! However this Olympus can do amazing things...the technology has come a long way. I do love the panoromic stitch mode, in camera editing, etc...however, I was VERY disapointed when I used the continuous shooting mode with the zoom. My pics were automatically shot in a lower resolution and they came out quite pixelated. (it was an important event)
Overall, now that I have had time to really play with the camera and work with the modes, I actually find it is a decent and fun camera for most people to enjoy. It does most of the thinking FOR you if you want it too! It is a lot of camera for a small price. I still don't always like the color tones vs my canon...but that's just my personal take.
