5 out of 5 stars Absolutely AWESOME...   January 8, 2009

I really have to wonder about people that have given this device a bad review...but to each his own.

I must admit I was a bit cautious because of the button issue everyone mentions, however, after using it for months (with and without the cover) I find it a non-issue. Yeah, I've accidently hit the buttons, but then I can't tell you how many times I've lost my place in a paperback.

I actually find I can read a book faster because turning pages is a snap--no readjusting the book for a different side of the page with each turn, no need to dog-ear pages (which I abhor) or search for a bookmark...just put in sleep mode or turn off.

I don't especially like to search for books to buy on the Kindle, but in a crunch it works. I usually go online and search and buy from there and then just turn on the Whispernet and let them download.

If I could ask for any changes I would like the ability to make folders to sort books by genre or author; definately not a deal maker/breaker.

I don't get the 5 days of battery life specified, I get about 2 with Whispernet turned off, but then again not that big a deal for me. I just plug it in when I go to bed.

I like the fact that I didn't have to buy a separate subscription to use the Whispernet and I was surprised that I even got a signal since I live in the sticks...there again, that wouldn't have been a deal breaker--I was prepared to download books from my computer. Still easier than waiting for a delivery or running to the local store (which is about 12 miles away).

Ok, so it's a little pricey and I think the books should be a little cheaper since there is little cost in converting to digital and they can't be sold or traded, but I'm really not very good at reselling my books anyway.

I have absolutely no use for pictures or color since the books I read have neither--the e-ink is fantastic, easy to read, easy to forget you aren't reading an actual book--for those that want a backlight go buy a book light; I sure don't want to be reading a computer-like screen.

Regardless, even with the FEW flaws, the Kindle is fantastic! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or buy another one.

WAY TO GO AMAZON!!

I am really enjoying my Kindle. I have had issues with the battery but
Amazon has been great with their help. I will continue to use it and by electronic books!!!

I bought this for my wife who's favorite passtime is to read. She loves it! The only two she wishes she could change is the size of the page turning tab and the wireless signal strength, which is partially due to our geographic location. Definatly worth the purchase though!

5 out of 5 stars The only two flaws in Kindle.   January 7, 2009

I tried to give Kindle a 4.5, so I gave it a 5 instead. The only two flaws: no backlight and the next page button is too easy to hit!

3 out of 5 stars Design flaw   January 7, 2009

I am a fairly new owner of the Kindle. The only complaint I have so far is that, in my opinion, it has a design flaw. The page turners on each side are way too sensitive or poorly located. I find myself touching one or the other and loosing my place in what I'm reading. It's very irritating.
